The Picker House Building Is a 9. The Beer in It Is a 6.
A century-old mill floor restored with restraint, pouring house beers that are about a year away from matching the room.

Our Visit
The Picker House Taproom sits inside a restored cotton mill with exposed brick, high ceilings, and massive windows that let in the afternoon light. The space itself is a 9. The bar is long and well lit. The seating mixes high tops, low tables, and comfortable chairs pulled up to the windows. It feels like a place where you could stay for hours.
I ordered a house lager and a guest IPA from one of the Charlotte breweries. The guest IPA was solid, crisp with good hop bite. The house lager was thin and lacked malt character. It tasted like it needed another week in the tank. The bartender said they were still dialing in the recipes. That matches what the reviews say. The room carries the experience.
By 7 p.m. the space fills with a mix of after-work crowds and people who live nearby. Conversation stays easy until the music gets louder after 8. The service is quick and the pours are generous. The building is the reason to go. The beer is close but not there yet.
Score: 6.4. Score: 6.4.
